Book Borrowing with take place every Monday.

The primary goal of this program is to allow students the time to borrow a book from the school library.  Additional goals include helping all students to become avid readers, encourage a love of reading, enhance their curiosity about the global world around them, and instill in them responsibility.

Each week grade-levels visit the library in 20 minute time slots. We begin each session with a mini-lesson reinforcing age-appropriate library skills. Some of these skills include how library information and books are organized, locating items using the author, title, and subjects, how to care for and respect library materials, and choosing “just right” books.

Each student has their own “bookshelf marker” stick. They use these markers when looking for a book. When a book is taken off the shelf, a marker is put in its place. If students decide to return this book, they can easily put the book back in its correct spot.

Student can then check books out of the library for one week. They are responsible for returning books on time in order to borrow another.

A quiet, learning environment is encouraged as students read quietly after choosing their book. The librarian and classroom teacher are available to assist students when locating a book and in making age appropriate reading choices.
